what is ketamine assisted therapy?
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an incredible mental health treatment for those who struggle with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, Chronic Pain, OCD, Bipolar and more. It works well for treatment-resistant clients who feel as if they've tried everything there is to offer, those who may be looking for an expedited treatment alternative, or those simply wanting a spiritual experience.
Ketamine combined with Professional Psychotherapy creates powerful outcomes. 87% of patients reported improved symptoms after their first 2 dosing sessions.
ketamine assisted therapy (KAP)
KAP has emerged as a promising treatment for depression and anxiety, particularly for patients who have not responded to traditional therapies. Here are five key statistics that highlight the effectiveness of KAP:
Rapid Reduction in Symptoms: Studies have shown that approximately 60% of patients with treatment-resistant depression experience a significant reduction in symptoms within 24 hours after a single Ketamine infusion. This is particularly noteworthy given that traditional antidepressants often take weeks to show effects.
Sustained Improvement: About 50% of patients maintain the benefits from Ketamine treatment for up to one week or more after a single infusion, with some patients experiencing sustained improvement for up to several months when combined with ongoing psychotherapy.
High Response Rate: Meta-analyses indicate that 70% of patients with treatment-resistant depression respond positively to KAP, showing at least a 50% reduction in depressive symptoms.
Anxiety Reduction: For patients with anxiety disorders, particularly those with comorbid depression, ketamine has been shown to reduce anxiety symptoms by up to 50% within a few hours to days after treatment.
Lower Suicidality: Ketamine has been found to significantly reduce suicidal thoughts in patients with severe depression, with up to 80% of patients reporting a decrease in suicidal ideation within 24 hours of treatment. This rapid effect is critical for patients in acute crisis.
Art-Making and KAP
The magic of KAP is in the processing. This is where we will write, draw, paint, create and discuss. Our experience can only be defined partially with words, which is why this powerful and transformative experience should be processed using lines, shapes and colors. Art-making will solidify Ketamine's effects while also allowing you a deeper dive into the discovery of yourself and your inner world.
Ketamine opens up pathways in the brain, allowing patients to access subconscious thoughts and emotions. Art therapy provides a non-verbal outlet to express these newfound insights, especially when verbal communication may be challenging.
Art therapy can help patients process emotions and experiences in a tangible way, deepening the therapeutic work initiated by the Ketamine session. The creative process can serve as a bridge between the altered state of consciousness induced by Ketamine and the patient's everyday awareness.
One of the key challenges with Ketamine therapy is integrating the experiences and insights into daily life. Art Therapy provides a structured yet flexible way to explore and solidify these insights, helping patients make sense of their experiences and apply them in meaningful ways.
The creative process in Art Therapy can be soothing and meditative, helping to reduce anxiety before and after Ketamine sessions. Engaging in art can help patients feel more in control and relaxed, enhancing the overall therapeutic experience.
Combining these therapies allows for a highly personalized approach. The patient’s art can guide the therapeutic process, providing unique insights that inform how subsequent Ketamine sessions are structured and what therapeutic goals are prioritized.
By integrating Art Therapy with KAP, patients can experience a more holistic and effective treatment, addressing both the psychological and emotional dimensions of their healing journey.
